Like most Beatles fans who were born after the split of the Beatles, as I grew up listening to music on the stereo versions of his songs the Beatles as they were in reality the only options around.
However, I have heard a lot about how the mono versions of his albums were the "real" mix their albums, as were the band worked itself into the place until about 1968. I read the quote Lennon when he said he just have not really heard Sgt. Pepper, unless you've heard in mono.
Then I read "My Life Recording The Beatles by Geoff Emerick and built my interest in the mix monkey. So I am glad to hear that his albums have been released on CD in mono in the context of the In Mono Beatles Box Set, of course I ordered it online as soon as I could.
It was a real thrill to hear these songs monkey for the first time, many of them really sound much different (beyond the obvious differences in the pan.) Some as lengths of "Helter Skelter" are completely different. Some, like "She's Leaving Home", literally, in a different tone and tempo (mono mix of "She's Leaving Home" has accelerated and half a step higher than it had been taped.)
While I found many versions of mono very fascinating as I think the first songs I really enjoy from most to be heard in mono. Many of these songs actually sound better in the Beatles Stereo Mono Box Set against his brothers.
The problem I have with great stereo versions is that they mixed with broad stereothat reflected in the scenarios as in most of her earlier songs, where all voices are one side and all instruments are in the other. This experience is terribly irritating when headphones llistening (and I listen to music with headphones.)
I think The Beatles remastered picture Mono Set is an essential part of the true fans of the collection of the Beatles The Beatles. Do not get me wrong, most likely hear the stereo versions more often, but I think a lot of mono mixes are better, and even if there are better, are always interesting to listen to me because they are totally different from the stereo version.
